5 Cable Management Hacks for a Clean Desk
I always thought cable management was something only hardcore tech enthusiasts bothered with. It seemed like such an “extra” thing to care about when the cables were technically doing their job just fine — even if they looked like a bowl of spaghetti behind my monitor. But with my home office renovation finally underway, I made myself a promise: this time, everything is going to be organized. And once I started actually looking into it, I realized cable management is sooo much simpler than I ever gave it credit for. You don’t need special tools or a big budget — just a few clever tricks and less than an hour of your time.
1. Velcro Cable Ties
I used to think zip ties were the only way to bundle cables — until I had to actually remove one and ended up cutting the wrong cord. Velcro cable ties are reusable, adjustable, and “game-changing” in how clean they make everything look. Just group your cables by destination — monitor cables together, PC cables together, peripherals together — cinch them with a velcro strip, and suddenly your cable runs look intentional instead of accidental. Future-you will seriously thank present-you the next time you need to swap something out.

2. Cable Sleeves
We all have that one messy drop of cables that snakes from the desk down to the floor. No matter how many times you push it out of sight, it creeps back. A simple fabric sleeve solves this completely — it wraps around all those cables and turns them into one clean, unified line from your desk to the floor. Just feed your cables through, zip it up, and watch a chaotic tangle instantly become something that actually looks “designed.” Especially worth it for any runs along a wall where people can actually see them.

3. Under-Desk Cable Trays
I’ll be honest — I had my power strip just sitting on the floor collecting dust for years, and I thought that was just how it had to be. Then I discovered under-desk cable trays, and it genuinely changed how my whole workspace looks.
You mount the trays underneath your desk, drop your power strip and excess cable length into it, and everything disappears from view completely. No more extra floor clutter, no more accidentally kicking your surge protector. Just screw or clamp the trays into place and tuck everything in. It takes maybe fifteen minutes and makes a “remarkable” difference.

4. Cable Clips
Small, adhesive, and almost embarrassingly simple — cable clips are one of those solutions you can’t believe you didn’t use sooner. Stick them along your desk edge or monitor stand, thread your cables through, and everything stays exactly where you want it. The best part? They reposition easily as your setup evolves, so there’s no commitment and no damage to your desk. A few of these placed strategically will stop that slow cable creep that always seems to undo your organizational flow.
5. Label Everything
Before you bundle, label both ends of each cable. Future-you will thank present-you when you need to swap a monitor or add a new device.
Trust me, I know this sounds boring. But hear me out: the next time you need to unplug just your monitor and you reach back there and already know exactly which cord to grab will be heavenly. That’s the moment you’ll realize it was absolutely worth the five minutes.

Go Give it a Try
Start with just one or two of these (I think the velcro ties and a cable tray are a great combo to kick things off) and build from there. If you’re in the middle of a renovation like I am, there’s honestly no better time to do it. Your desk will look completely transformed in under an hour, and you’ll wonder why you waited so long.
